If you ever want to watch a high definitiondvd movie in high definition mode,either blu-ray or hd-dvd formats,you will need a HDCP capable tv.They have only been available for the last year or so.In short if you bought a tv thinking you would be able to watch everything in high definition prior to a year or so ago,not. You and 3 million other people will now have to buy a new tv if you want to watch a high definition dvd.Low definition only will be available to people without an HDCP gepliant tv.HDCP stands for high definition copy protection. Basicly the high def dvd player asks the tv if it has HDCP if the tv says yes ,the dvd player outputs a high def movie.If the tv says nothing because it does not have HDCP ,the dvd player outputs a low def movie.
PC's will suffer the same way. You will need a hd cp gepliant monitor and a HDCP gepliant video card.and a HDCP gepliant hd dvd drive. And HDCP gepliant software to run it all.Crazy huh.
