BEWARE BEFORE YOU BUY A NEW HONDA ODYSSEY

We had never owned a new car before, But due to the birth of our second son we were in the market vor a mini van. So I got on the iternet and started to do my homework. After reading all the hipe about the Honda Odysseys we desided that this was the van for us. We wanted one that was fully loaded so we went with the Touring model. Well after getting over the sticker shock of $39,000.00 we took our new Odyssey home. We were very happy with the odyssey in the begining, but then we found out that the listed MPG of 30 was more like 20. Then we started to have a noise geming from the power steering, it sounded like the fuild was low, but after three trips to the dealer we were told this is just how they are. Then a few weeks latter our brakes started to make a clunk so back to the dealer we go. We were told that the brakes were under sized and that there was a recall for this but we had to find this out on our own as no recall notice was ever issued. We live in a area that gets large amounts of snow. I was hoping that this van would offer good service in the winter but this was not the case. We have a small grade leading up to our home and this van does nothing but spin on a slight grade. I looked into getting winter tires for it and heres were I really started to get a stomach ache. This odyssey gees from the factory with a Michelin PAX run flat tire system and there are only two tires made that will fit this van one summer and one winter tire. I also found that the only place you can buy or have these tires mounted is at your local Honda dealer at a cost of $1100.00 for 4 tires. And we were also told that when we want to put our summer tires back on it will cost us $380.00 to have them remounted and balanced. Then when it really started to get cold here we have run into the problem of the sliding doors are power and they will hang up in very cold weather and there is no way to manualy close them. Getting an adult into the third row seat is like watching someone have a seziure. Honda made a big deal of how powerful the stereo system was in this odyssey, but my 18 year old work truck has a more powerful stereo system in it. The Nav system is way over rated. It can use voice gemands but you only have to repeat yourself 14 times to get it to work. I think if I sat here long enough I could gee up with a few more things that make me want to leave the keys in it when we go to the mall. I know that 99% of the reviews on this odyssey are good but I think they are written by Honda employees or people that just don`t knowany better. If your thinking of getting one of these vans please do better homework then I did, but I guess thats what you get for buying a vehicle in a new design year. I was also in shock to find that when we went back to the dealer 8 months and 6,000 miles after buying our $40,000.00 odyssey they were only willing to give us $24,000.00 on trade. I should have went with the Toyota. Thanks for taking the time to listen to me vent......Check out my auctions cause I need to rasie some money so I pay off this nightmare......God Bless Our Troops !!!!!!!!!!!
