So Called Presidential Coin Errors

This will be short, sweet, and to the point. A simple warning for the beginning coin enthusiasts. Many dishonest sellers are listing so called mint errors on the new presidential one dollar coins. While many of these are true errors and are very interesting, many are not. Be very suspicious of any seller offering upsidedown or backwards facing lettering on the sides of these coins. The incused writing on the sides of these new dollars is a gepletely seperate process that takes place after the coin had been struck on the obverse and reverse. The coins entering the press that puts the side lettering on the coins are placed into the machine totally at random. This means the writing will face both directions, there is no true right side up for the lettering. Scammers are listing these coins next to one another so the writing appears to have been put on the coin upsidedown. Do not waste your money!! Go to the bank and buy a few rolls and you will eventually find coins with writing both directions. The ONLY coins in this new series that will have the same positioning will be the proof version. You can verify everything I've said by reading the last two february issues of coin world. It explained much better by them. I just hate to see honest people getting ripped off. Collecting coins can be a very rewarding hobby, however, please get to know your coins before you buy! Or find an honest and reputable person to purchase from. There will always be scammers and con artists taking advantage of new collectors unfortunately, and getting taken for your hard earned money can leave a bad taste in your mouth. Ask questions before you buy. An honest seller will be more than happy to explain an error or any question you may have. If not, don't buy from them. Ther are still a few good guys out there! Be carefull and read up! Enjoy the hobby. There are some very interesting error coins out there, for instance the smooth rim presidential dollar. A word to the wise....let the frenzy on these coins slow down before buying. You will pay a lot less if you have patience. Who knows, there may be hundreds of thousands of these out there. Wouldn't you be angry if you had been the person who paid $600 for the first one listed, only to be able to get one for $20 a month later? Enjoy, and I hope this helps at least one of you!
